While writing my book A Leap From the Clouds, I noted that there were very few first-person accounts by the aeronauts who performed the balloon-parachute act. When I finally found one–an account by L. Guy Mecklem–I thought it significant enough to reprint as an entire chapter in the book.
Recently I have come across another example, the booklet 4,000 Trips: He Has Dropped From the Clouds, which consists of a long interview of Clarence C. Bonette by writer George Allan England (an interesting character in himself, especially for fans of early Science Fiction). A copy of this booklet was sent to me by Clarence’s grand-niece, Mary Grace Patterson, who has graciously allowed me to transcribe it and post it so that all can access and read it.
